Who is eligible for the flu vaccine?

The flu vaccine is given free on the NHS to adults who:

  • – are 50 and over (including those who will be 50 by 31 March 2023)
  • – have certain health conditions
  • – are pregnant
  • – are in long-stay residential care
  • – receive a carer’s allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person who may be at risk if you get sick
  • – reside with an individual who has a higher susceptibility to severe infections as a result of a compromised immune system, such as someone cohabitating with HIV, a transplant recipient, or undergoing specific cancer, lupus, or rheumatoid arthritis therapies.

If you do not qualify for a free NHS flu jab we can still provide you with a private flu vaccination and this applies for both under and over 65s.

Who shouldn’t have the flu jab?

Most people can have a flu vaccine. However, there are a couple of exceptions:

– If you are currently unwell with a fever, you should delay getting the flu jab.
– If you have an egg allergy, speak to your GP or pharmacist before getting the jab.
